Youth Services Program Assistant

Part-Time, 18 hours/week

Job Description

Youth Services Program Assistant: Supports programming and activities 3 days a week for the Youth Services Program at the Pride Center of Staten Island. This includes planning programs, developing a monthly calendar, coordinating with community partners and volunteers who provide programming, making referrals to programs in-house and at other organizations for youth participants (in consultation with the Program Director), supervising youth drop-in activities and programs, outreaching to recruit LGBTQ and allied youth into Pride Center programming, and assisting with Youth Services and Pride Center special events.



  • Facilitate 3 days of activities for LGBTQ and allied youth.

  • Inform supervisors when program and/or office supplies are getting low or equipment is not working properly.

  • Perform in-reach and outreach activities throughout the calendar year to recruit new youth and retain current youth participants for Youth Drop-In activities.

  •  On a monthly basis, create a calendar for Youth Drop-In activities and other youth programming. Calendars are to be drafted three months ahead of time.

  • Foster a safe and welcoming environment for all participants.

  • Coordinate with community partner organizations and/or volunteers who facilitate programs within Youth Drop-In activities.

  • Chaperone off-site field trips as needed.

  • Communicate concerns about youth participants to the Program Director on a weekly basis.

  • Make and record referrals to programs in-house and to other organizations for youth participants (in consultation with the Program Director) as needed.

  •  Draft language for Facebook events and other types of outreach communication.

  • Assist with the planning of Youth as well as Pride Center special events, such as the annual youth prom, the annual Day of Silence, and monthly potlucks.

  • Attend weekly supervision and monthly staff meetings as assigned.

  • Other duties as assigned.


High School Diploma required. Experience working with youth, transgender individuals, clients with a history of substance use and/or mental health issues, persons living with/affected by HIV/AIDS and/or diverse groups of youth highly preferred. Candidate must demonstrate ability and/or commitment to working effectively with clients from diverse backgrounds and/or ethnic, cultural, and

sexual minorities with a welcoming, affirming, and harm-reduction approach. Candidate MUST have attention to detail, self-motivation, strong boundaries, and ability to work independently and as part of a team. Candidate must have excellent written, verbal, and organizational skills as well as good communication and computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office. Familiarity with and proficiency utilizing social media applications for outreach purposes is required. Applicants should be passionate, open-minded, patient, have a high level of creativity and have a commitment to and enthusiasm for working with youth. Bi-lingual [Spanish/English] preferred but not required. Work schedule includes weekday and Saturday afternoons and other flexible scheduling.

This is a part-time, 18 hours/week position.

Work place is the Pride Center of Staten Island, 25 Victory Blvd. 3rd floor. The Youth Services Program Assistant reports to the Program Director.


Hours: 1 PM – 7 PM on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

Exceptions: On the fourth Thursday of each month, the Youth Services Program Assistant will report from 1 to 4 PM and will work three fewer hours of scheduled time to maintain 18 hours.
