SIPE was a social and networking group for the SI LGBTQ community, and Michele participated in the organization of events like the Pride Kick-off, at the Staten Island Museum, and annual parties like the Black & White Dinner Dance, Harvest Hoedown, and St. Patrick's Dinner Dance. She also served on the Justice Department’s community relations committee, in response to a publicized assault on 2 LGBTQ community members. Michele is the first lesbian to walk under a gay banner in any non-LGBTQ SI parade - the Staten Island Columbus Day parade. She is out and proud to be one of the Grand Marshals for the SI PrideFest of 2017, along with her wife.
