Working with LGBT Older Adults

As the LGBT population ages many times they become sheltered and isolated. This workshop will talk about how we as Pride Organizers can bring in LGBT Older Adults and utilize them in a multitude of roles while staying cognizant of the limitations working with an older population might encounter.

Presenter: Alyssa Cottone, SAGE-Long Island Program Coordinator

As the SAGE-LI Program Coordinator, Alyssa facilitates programs and events that serve the GLBT older adult community. Alyssa coordinates a wide range of programs; anywhere from restaurant outings, museum tours, wellness workshops to weekly Mingles. Alyssa strives to make her programs as enjoyable and welcoming as possible to enhance all members’ overall quality of life and love for their community.

Alyssa graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Promotion of Wellness Management & Health Science from Oswego University where she also played for the Women's Rugby Football team. Previously, Alyssa was the Wellness Program Coordinator for Rediscovery of JRI, a group home of 12 young men who aged out of the foster care system, in Boston, MA.
