Cornell University Cooperative Extension is coming to the Center! They are providing FREE nutrition and health programs for youth and adults.
Food preparation is included in the workshops, and anyone who attends six out of the eight workshops would receive a certificate of graduation from Cornell University Cooperative Extension.
Here is a list of the topics for the workshops:
Workshop #1: "Introduction to the Program: How Much are You Eating?" - Includes a discussion and interactive demonstration on Portion Sizes and the MY Plate food groups.
Workshop #2: Introduction to MY Plate: Focus on MY Plate and discussion of making healthy choices in the MY Plate food groups.
Workshop #3: "Making Healthy Choices Part I" - Reading Labels, with a focus on Fat, Sodium and Sugar
Workshop #4: "Making Healthy Choices Part II" - Continuation of Label Reading with a focus on Fiber
Workshop #5: "Food Safety" - Keeping food safe from Bacteria during preparation and storage.
Workshop #6: "Menu Planning and Recipe Modification" - Putting the Making Healthy Choices information and Portion Size and My Plate information into practice
Workshop #7: "Food Purchasing" - Suggestions and Tips on Making the Most of Your Food Dollars as well as practical information about budgeting and meal planning, including information about resources available in the community for organizations and for individuals
Workshop #8: "Celebrating Nutritiously" - Combines all the elements from all the workshops with hands on review, discussion and role play for a get ready for graduation celebration!
